Thanks to the Oakton Art Club

The diversity-themed banner has been made possibly thanks to many people at Oakton Community College, and I’d like to thank the following members of the Oakton Art Club for contributing their time and talent to painting the banner — Noora Badeen, Dominique Derosena, Liz Diamond, JulietteRose Glassner, Priscilla Solomon, Valerie Suchor and Hajra Usman.

Last month we had two productive painting sessions, with big help from members of Oakton’s Art Club. Once the text contributions have been written on painted swatches and affixed to the banner, banner’s edges are stitched, and grommets are popped in, we can start figuring out where the banner will be installed. We’re hoping that the installation can be completed this summer. Stay tuned for more updates!

June update

deeply enhanced by immigration

“Our communities have been deeply enhanced by immigration, be it of Irish Catholics across the constituency or of Muslims from Gujarat in India or from Pakistan, principally from Kashmir. While we celebrate our diversity, what surprises me time and time again as I travel around the constituency is that we are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us…” — Jo Cox
